Into the Wild: Mutant Wildlife

Dev-Blog #10 Wildlife & Enemy AI

*DISCLAIMER: DoS2 is still in early development. Images and graphics shown in may change or may not appear in the final version of the game.*

The hunter becomes the hunted! In Dawn of Survivors 2, we really wanted to give you a fully immersive world with danger all around you. Zombies are scary, but animals bring a different breed of danger. With this in mind, we set out to create a truly dangerous world of monsters and death, giving you the most bang for your buckshot.

Wolves, Boars, and Rabbits … oh my!

In DoS1, the only animals you would come across were your own dog and some pesky rabbits. But now, the wild has taken over, mutated, and is on the hunt!  You’ll take on the most ruthless, rapid, and the hungriest wild wolves and boars you’ve ever seen. Foaming at the mouth, they’ll attack if you get too close! However, running away might not always be the best option. Animals provide a consistent food supply and hide for clothing. If you have a chance to kill them, it might be worth the risk.

We wanted to give everyone a truly engaging and immersive experience by having numerous dangers all around them. It’s not just zombies and scavengers you’ll need to worry about, but the entire environment itself! Wild animals will add a more intense feeling that will force you to keep your eyes and ears open at all times.

Overall, we set out to make a much more adventurous experience and we accomplished that by simply using the environment and the wildlife. It’s not just man v.s. zombie. It’s man v.s. the wild!  It’s time to return to our roots as savages!

Key Details:

  • Giant wild animals that attack based on sound and smell.

  • Taking a crack at a man v.s. wild experience.

  • Created a darker, and more realistic tone with the models.

  • Added additional food and hide resources for larger animals.
